Trip to Texas 7/3-7/15/09

We went to Texas on 7/3 so the rest of my family could meet Sam in person. We left on Friday night and spent the night in Tuscaloosa. We got to Lollie and Pop's house on Saturday afternoon and their friends Ruth and Raymond and Mary and Tommy were all there to greet us!

It was really hot while we were there, so we didn't go out much, but we all had fun just standing around the pack n' play and staring at Sam! Since I decided not to go back to work until 7/20, Scott went back by himself on 7/10 and Mom drove back with me on 7/15. It was so nice to spend the extra time there! Sam did so good in the car on the way out there and on the way back. On the way back, we drove straight through, so he did 12 1/2 hours in the car seat. Such a good boy! (We of course got him out to feed and change him).

Big Family Shower

Today we went to LaGrange to visit Scott's family for a "Big Family" shower. Two of Scott's cousins recently had babies too, so this was a great opportunity for the family to meet all three babies!! Scott's cousin Janice had her second boy in January (Alex) and his cousin Michael and his wife Nicole had their first, a little girl they named Adrianna in April.

Scott and I almost didn't go because Sam hasn't had his first shots yet, but there weren't that many folks there and the kiddos kept their distance. I'm so glad we went. It was lots of fun and I got to talk to the other mommies and get some good advice!

Almost one month old!

Sam is doing good! He's up to around 9 lbs and 21 inches! He's definitely chunking up! I love it! His little face is broken out (apparently it's common in the first month) and he's losing some of his hair (also normal), but he's still adorable!

Here's some pics from the last two weeks:

I'm not that dirty! Do we have to do this?

All that hair!

Nice and warm in my hooded towel!
Pretty sure that hair is going to be curly when it grows out!

First week at home

Things are going well! We had a bit of a rough start with the feedings, but I'm pumping breastmilk and feeding him that in a bottle now, so he's thriving! We're more comfortable too, because we can track how much he's eating and this way Scott and other people can feed him too!

We've been trying Sam out in all his various toys (the swing, the bouncer seat and the pack n' play). He's also been wearing a few outfits a day (at least!). It's so fun seeing him in all the different clothes!

I'm feeling pretty good. I've had a couple of crying episodes, but that's to be expected I guess. All the emotions are very overwhelming! I've had lots of support though from Scott and my parents and his parents. We are very greatful for all the help we have around! Scott is such a great dad!!! He's got all the feedings and diapers logged so we can take the info to the doctor and also see how much more/less he's eating, etc. He gets all the bottles sterilized after use and ready for the next feeding. He's been feeding, burping and changing diapers too! How lucky am I?? Trust me, I know it!

Below are some recent pics from the first week at home. Enjoy!
